Rally continues, equities post moderate gains; Nifty up 17 points, 1165.35Pivotals continued their rally on sustained buying support by foreign institutional investors and domestic institutions and closed with moderate gains on the National Stock Exchange today. Mirroring the upbeat sentiment, the S&P CNX Nifty rose by 17.25 points to 1165.35 points from 1148.10 points of the previous day. CNX Nifty Junior index also firmed up by 17.95 points to 1992.75 points from 1974.80 points while the S&P CNX Defty appreciated by 14.05 points to 944.55 points. The S&P CNX 500 moved up by 9.60 points to 788.25 points from 778.65 points and CNX Midcap 200 index edged up by 6.26 points to 673.10 points. The market witnessed higher turnover of Rs 31.20 billion today as compared to Rs 25.34 billion the previous day. There were 384,138 trades for 113.86 million shares. Today, 554 securities gained, 474 declined, 93 remained unchanged while 63 scrips hit their price bands today. The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were : Orient Bank which shot up by 8.06 per cent to Rs 34.85 from Rs 32.25, Tata Power Rs 78.55 (72.70), Grasim Rs 186.60 (172.75), Reliance Rs 183.10 (169.50) and SBI Rs 230.40 (213.30). The top losers were: East India Hotels which slid by 5.26 per cent to Rs 180 from Rs 190, Ranbaxy Rs 730 (749.55), MTNL Rs 195.05 (200), Indian Hotel Rs 336.25 (344) and Hindustan Lever Rs 2279 (2330). Reliance topped the turnover list with Rs 3.83 billion, followed by Pentafour Software Rs 3.25 billion, ITC Rs 2.99 billion, Satyam Computer Rs 2.85 billion, SBI Rs 2.36 billion, L&T Rs 2.05 billion, ACC Rs 1.39 billion, Ranbaxy Rs 1.19 billion, Tata Tea Rs 908.4 million, Tisco Rs 864.2 million, Zee Telefilms Rs 793.3 million, Telco Rs 733.7 million and Digital Equipment Rs 538.7 million. The other actively traded counters were: Silverline Rs 526 million, MTNL Rs 419.9 million, Castrol Rs 395 million, Infosys Technologies Rs 343.8 million, BHEL Rs 306.4 million, Hindustan Lever Rs 246.4 million, Rolta Rs 242.5 million, HCL=HP Rs 229.2 million, NIIT Rs 225.5 million, Glaxo Rs 212.4 million and Global Telesystems Rs 205.4 million.
