The F C Kohli ChatSOFT HEAD (Mon Dec 2 20:53:16 1996 IST):
Mr Kohli, I am posting this all over again: When do you think the Internet will really take off in India. The answer is very important to me. Please let me have your guestimate on the issue. software (Mon Dec 2 20:53:28 1996 IST):
What about govt policy regarding IT policy? FC Kohli (Mon Dec 2 20:53:32 1996 IST):
softhead: The govt's mind is changing. However the speed of change at the level of policy makers is not fast enough. I am an optimist after having wirked for 27 yrs. in this industry and having gone through all kinds of constraints, restrictions including MRTP applied to TCS when its revenue was hardly Rs. 6 crores. We will overcome and we need all people like you to help the process. software (Mon Dec 2 20:54:37 1996 IST):
Does the IT lobby lack power to convince the govt? FC Kohli (Mon Dec 2 20:56:25 1996 IST):
softhead: Internet facuilities from India have improved considearbly over the last 6 months. And I'm sure you will see considerable improvent in the next 6 months. If you aer planning to use Internet extensively, even during the peak periods you will se considerable improvement in speed by mid '97. netman (Mon Dec 2 20:57:00 1996 IST):
Mr Kohli: What about your financial software "EX", I think it has not done well ? Are you gonig to launch any new packages? SOFT HEAD (Mon Dec 2 20:57:44 1996 IST):
THANKS A LOT MR KOHLI. YOUR OPTIMISM ABOUT INTERNET IN INDIA IS VERY ENCOURAGING. FC Kohli (Mon Dec 2 20:58:29 1996 IST):
software: To complete the chat I would say that industry has adequate lobby. The lobby itself does not create the level of awareness that we need. DisgruntledTCSEmployee (Mon Dec 2 20:58:50 1996 IST):
I am repeating this: What is your opinion about the fact that the Tata group has some 8
or 9 companies in the IT industry most of which are performing
miserably. Take the two leaders, TCS and TUL, how are they better
off by functioning as two different companies when their business
objectives are the same? Wouldn't it have been better to pool the
talents of the two together? DisgruntledTCSEmployee (Mon Dec 2 20:59:12 1996 IST):
Please...please...please....don't go! netman (Mon Dec 2 20:59:28 1996 IST):
Mr Kohli: Please stay on for some more time . I have some more queries for you... please..... Indy (Mon Dec 2 21:01:03 1996 IST):
MR KOHLI, R U LEAVING. DON'T. JUST STAY A WHILE. I STILL NEED TO KNOW HOW INDIAN COMPANIES CAN ASSESS SOFTWARE NEED IN UNITED STATES SO AS TO CATER TO THEIR NEEDS ADN BUILD GLOBAL SOFTWARE PRODUCTS. DO YOU THINK WE NEED TO PUT OUR DEVELOPMENT TEAMS PERMANENTLY IN THAT COUNTRY? FC Kohli (Mon Dec 2 21:01:22 1996 IST):
netman: EX according to us has done well. This year since we are coming with a new package with additional functionality and security features on Win 95 we are purposly not pushed the sale of present package..however we are all set to make up in an aggressive manner with the WIn 95 version. PC-Man (Mon Dec 2 21:04:12 1996 IST):
Mr. Kohli: What about Indian Software producer I don't think they will ever be
happy with the pesent rate of piracy in India. Waht are your views?? Indy (Mon Dec 2 21:04:51 1996 IST):
HELOOOO MR KOHLI, R U STILL THERE? PLEASE DON'T LEAVE WITHOUT ANSWERING MY QUESTION ABOUT ASSESSING USER NEEDS IN THE UNITED STATES SO AS TO BUILD GLOBAL SOFTWARE PRODUCTS. software (Mon Dec 2 21:05:32 1996 IST):
is software piracy a major problem in India, like it is china? software (Mon Dec 2 21:06:52 1996 IST):
Can software piracy ever be curbed? Perhaps it can controlled, but never stopped? FC Kohli (Mon Dec 2 21:07:03 1996 IST):
DisgruntledTCSEmployee: TUL is primarily operating in the Unysis market which is fairly large - Unisys is a $6 billion co. TCS is broad-based software co. sells or distributes no hardware. There are other smaller IT cos. witin the TATA fold which are operating within special niches like TATA Elxsi which is operating in the visual computing area. ANd TATA interactive in applied multimedia. THe pooling of companies into one company according to us will not create any competitve advantage. You will appreciate that it is very difficult to manage and strategise large software companies covering diverse areas. netman (Mon Dec 2 21:07:27 1996 IST):
Mr. Kohli: What I know in India is that Financial softwares has not been able to make impact, what do you think about it? Things TCS does (Mon Dec 2 21:08:48 1996 IST):
What is your opinion about the things TCS
does here in US.. salary.. US taxes.. bonds...
quiet a bit of professionalism i guess.. do u think
all other indian companies should follow the
indian IT leader TCS? FC Kohli (Mon Dec 2 21:11:32 1996 IST):
If you want any further clarifications or you have any questions to ask you can contact me on e-mail. Thank yo very much. I have enjoyed this chat. REDIFF ON THE NET (Mon Dec 2 21:12:58 1996 IST):
THANKS VERY MUCH MR KOHLI. IT WAS NICE HAVING YOU WITH US. HOPE WE CAN REPEAT THIS SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE.Things TCS does (Mon Dec 2 21:13:50 1996 IST):
Can u please give your e-mail address... SOFT HEAD (Mon Dec 2 21:13:58 1996 IST):
what's mr kohli's e-mail address? where do we write? netman (Mon Dec 2 21:14:12 1996 IST):
