Schoolnet India now!About 100 schools in India are to be interconnected as part of a new pilot project. The project is being launched by Schoolnet India Limited, an independent company set up by the Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd. IL&FS is also forming a 50:50 joint venture with the US-based Morgan Media for developing multimedia applications and educational software for Schoolnet India. The plan to connect the schools is being done in association
The connected schools can access learning content via the computers and audio-visiual media provided by Schoolnet India. And plans are afoot to increase the scope and size of the project, with other schools being free to join once the pilot project is finished. Schoolnet India will also provide teachers with Internet access to pass on information to students. While a part of the content will be directly sourced from Morgan Media and adapted for domestic conditions, the new joint venture will also develop content specific to India, in subjects like history, geography etc. -Compiled from the Indian media |
