Syngal is Reliance Telecom chairman

Email this story to a friend. B K Syngal, former chairman and managing director of the Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited has been appointed chairman of Reliance Telecom, a Reliance Group company.

Syngal, who is 58 years old, was at the helm of VSNL through a period, which saw it rise to become one of the 10 largest Indian corporations.

Syngal, with his vast experiences in VSNL, Inmarsat and the Department of Telecommunications, would be expected to contribute substantially to the growth of Reliance Telecom, which has identified telecom as a major area of strategic focus in its thrust on infrastructure development.

Welcoming Syngal, Reliance Managing Director Anil Ambani said that Syngal's "wide experience and exceptional track record in the field of telecommunications would aid Reliance Telecom to be a leader in its field".

Reliance Telecom has licences in seven circles in 13 states which covers a third of India's land mass wit a population base of over 330 million.

Reliance Mobile is available in over 23 different cities in seven states. It is currently implementing the Gujarat basic services project.
