Siemens sets up Bangalore software centreSiemens Information Systems Limited, which has changed its focus from service or components providing to end-product development, has announced a software package for the healthcare segment.MagicView, which can run on PCs, can help doctors access medical images such as CT and MR over an ordinary telephone line at home.
MagicView is a scalable application for medium-sized users and large corporates. The Amrita Institute of Medical Science in Kochi is its first customer. MagicView also incorporates the concept of telemedicine, where doctors all over the world can share experiences over networks, and offer remote diagnosis. The Bangalore facility will work on high-end solutions for automotives including the futuristic "driverless train". The first trial run is expected next year. Siemens is working with the European Railway on the project. However, the project requires special infrastructure including railway tracks, communication networks and an upgraded signalling system besides the technology in the driver's cabin. A related development is the car navigation system based on GPS technology. The car's system uses four different satellites to identify its location on the globe and find an optimum route to the destination indicated. The Bangalore facility is also working on the prototype with other Siemens units. SISL has introduced Test Development Environment, a software testing tool to help companies significantly cut down costs. Fifty per cent of the development costs of software is incurred during testing. Manual testing is tedious and time consuming, according to SISL. The TDE is a tool that automatically generates data to validate software that is developed. It integrates readily with most other testing tools that focus on test execution. Being a major exporter of software, India will be a large market for the product. SISL has already sold the product to some of the leading software houses. - Compiled from the Indian media |
