IMR to sell Uniface tools in India

"As the year 2000 approaches, larger companies are undertaking conversions in-house,'' P S Raj Kumar, vice-president, software services, IMR, said. "The component-based method will enable companies to make the transition to 2000 easier."

Technology analyst, Patricia Seybold Group, in a study on strategic technologies, has highlighted that there have been remarkable changes in application development over the past few years. Components have emerged as a practical, evolutionary way to achieve the benefits of object technology.

Distributed multiplier architecture built around components has replaced client server applications.

The study further adds that the Internet has been the cause of major changes in application development. It has spawned new applications development tools and new languages while motivating vendors of existing tools to Web-enable their technologies.

According to the study, Uniface 7 from Compuware has kept pace with the trends and changes in application development and is a viable toolset for these applications in today's and tomorrow's component-based, Web-enabled, distributed, heterogeneous environment.

Bhargava said the decision to distribute Uniface 7 in India is in line with IMR's decision to sell products worldwide. He said Uniface embodies the best of software development, engineering technology and deployment capabilities.

On IMR India, he said the company had exported software worth Rs 920 million. In addition to software exports, domestic business totalled Rs 62 million.
