Mentor Graphics Corporation of the US has set up a state-of-the-art research and development unit in Hyderabad.

Mentor Graphics (India) Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the US company, has been operating in the city for over an year. The research and development facility has been set up now, company sources claim, to

Mentor Graphics Corporation Chief Operating Office Greg Hinckley said "India is well known for its high-calibre software engineers and we hope to take advantage of this resource. We consider Mentor Graphics India to be a very strategic part."

The company specialises in electronic hardware on software design solutions and provides products and consultation services.

Set up in 1981, it reported revenues of $453 million last year.
