Isocor plans to enter mobile, ISP defence segments

Isocor, a software developer for messaging and directory infrastructure based in California, plans to enter the mobile, Internet service provider and defence segments in India.

In India, Isocor will distribute its N-Plex family, consisting of a whole suite of Internet server products. All targeted at customers ranging from big service providers with millions of users to small corporates with 20 to 2000 users.

The products include the N-Plex hub, a solution for a mixed mail environment, N-Plex Mobile to do mobile banking presentations and the X-500, a "directory of directories". Currently, N-Plex is available on the Sun Solaris and Windows NT platforms.

Isocor, which operates through partners and four channel distributors, has located its Indian liaison office in Bangalore. The Bangalore office will also service other parts of Asia.

The $40-million Isocor was formed in 1991 and listed on the Nasdaq in 1996. Isocor has 250 personnel worldwide, of whom 150 are in R&D.

In India, Isocor has installed its software at Global Telesystems for its email system. Wipro CSD is using its email for their email gateways. The Department of Telecommunications has also standardised applications on Isocor's X.400 software.

In India, the company has appointed ECIL, Hyderabad, to focus on the government and defence segments. It has tied up with Business Network Architecture, Bangalore, to focus on the corporate and ISP segments and is talking to major systems integrators for the ISP and mobile segments.

The company hopes to make a killing providing value-added services if and when the mobile market opens up, company sources said.
