India appeals for judicious use of radio frequenciesIndia has urged that all spectrum and orbit users, whether government or private, utilise the natural limited resource of radio frequency and geo-stationary satellite orbit in a most optimal manner.Minister of State for Communication S Kabindra Purkayastha made the appeal recently at the International Telecommunication Union Conference at Minneapolis, US.
The minister pointed out that the government had taken various steps towards encouraging competition and efficiency after adopting the policy of liberalisation through privatisation in the field of basic telecommunication services, value added services like cellular mobile telephone, radio paging, radio trunking and VSAT services. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has been established with a view to improving the service of public telecommunication providers and protecting interests of consumers, he added. Purkayastha said a good manufacturing base of telecommunication equipment both in the government and private sector had been built by India and therefore India would like to share its high-level technical competence and managerial skill with other countries.
