"We need to first make money to be able to market our products. We are confident that, five to seven years hence, Millennium would be known as a product developing company.''

Kar has been quoted as saying that the company was firming up plans on the development of products and their applicability in industry-specific segments.

Initially, however, products would be developed based on experience gathered from projects at hand.

The company has several projects at hand that provide scope for product development.

Currently, the company is focussing on onsite consultancy, database and Internet applications and object technology-oriented programmes.

Reverse engineering and migration are also among the areas where the company has core competency.

Among the major projects at hand is a software project for a 100-bed hospital that is being set up in Calcutta by Wockhardt. "This hospital management system is reusable and scaleable. It shall be the most modern hospital management system anywhere in India,'' Kar said, adding that this is one area which provided great scope both in India and overseas.

The Wockhardt project is expected to go online from the middle of next month.

Besides, the company has taken up the computerisation of zilla parishads in the Burdwan district of West Bengal.

This system would link the zilla parishads to the district headquarters. In fact, the 'standard package' could well be replicated in other districts, too.

A research and analysis package has also been developed for a pharmaceutical research company.

Millennium has among its equity partners the Industrial Development Bank of India and West Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Limited. It hopes to notch revenue of Rs 22.5 million in the current fiscal, the first complete year of operations.

This is expected to go up to Rs 80 million next fiscal. While at present almost the entire revenue comes from overseas operations, over the next one year, export income would account for 85 per cent of the company's total revenue.

Millennium is firming up plans to set up a marketing office in the US. Now it operates in the US through a marketing associate.
