MTNL slashes Internet tariff by 15 per cent

Email this story to a friend. The board of directors of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited today decided to slash Internet tariffs by 15 per cent on all the existing three slabs of 100, 250 and 500 hours.

Besides, two new slabs of 30 hour at Rs 500 per month, targeting the low-end users and 50 hours for Rs 1,500 per year have been introduced, a company statement issued in New Delhi said.

The 50-hour slab will have a registration fee of Rs 500.

The use of Internet for the 30-hour slab is limited to one hour per day and extra use of Internet for this slab for more than one hour per day would be charged at Rs 10 per hour.

''There will be no registration charges for this slab and if the customer renews his subscription, the charges will be reduced to Rs 400 per month.''

The reduced rates will be applicable for new connections as well as for renewals.

The date of implementation of the new tariffs shall be decided after fulfilling the requisite formalities. The new Internet tariff shall be applicable for a period of three months from the date of implementation.

The board has also decided to call an extraordinary general meeting shortly to bring the necessary changes in the articles of association of the company for giving Navratna powers to the board.
