Aptech offers computer courses in Indian languages

With the increasing and widespread use of computers in all aspects of our daily life, easy accessibility of computer education has gained paramount importance. It would be unfair at this point to deprive those who are held back from learning computers due to language barriers," Maharashtra Education Minister Sudhir Joshi said yesterday while launching Aptech's computer courses in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and Tamil.

Joshi appreciated Aptech's efforts to make computer education more widely available to the aspiring youth on the streets.

Ganesh Natarajan, managing director, Aptech Limited, said over 90 per cent of our Indian population does not read or speak English. "Aptech's courses in Indian languages are therefore Aptech's gift to our Indian masses on the 50^th anniversary of India's Independence."

He claimed that with this localisation drive Aptech would shatter the misconception that computer education is only for the English-speaking public.

The Aptech multilingual program will begin with computer courses in four Indian languages of Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and Tamil. Aptech will also be launching courses in other popular spoken languages like Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Bengali.

Pramod Khera, senior vice-president, Aptech, and head of Aptech Computer Education, said "By introducing computer courses in various Indian languages we will break the barriers of conventional computer education which has been so far restricted to the English language, our multilingual courses will therefore enable almost anyone in India, with an interest and inclination, to learn and pursue a career in computers."
