Tata IBM and Vedika ink deal

As per the terms of agreement between the organisations, the two companies will conduct joint marketing initiatives to promote the IBM PC server and Fact.

Both IBM and Fact have already been working together on similar campaigns in Singapore and Malaysia, and with the success of these joint exercises, it has been decided to extend the coverage to Indonesia and India.

The joint marketing effort has kicked off with a series of IBM-Fact promotional seminars in Calcutta, Bombay, Ahmedabad and Bangalore. The seminar series will reach Madras and New Delhi on December 15 and 16 respectively.

According to Debashish Bhattacharya, general manager, corporate affairs, Vedika, Indian Software Companies have been doing offshore and onsite contracts for overseas companies, and hardly have any shrink-wrapped packages selling abroad.

He said Vedika is one of the key independent software vendors of Microsoft. IBM PC server 310 and 315 are economical PC servers, ideal solutions for small and medium businesses.

With a PCI connected SCSI, PC server 310 is capable of speed file and print, serving right from start. It comes with a Pentium 200 MHz processor with 16MB ECC memory and 2.16 GB wide ultra SCSI adapter.

According to Sanjay Mital, vice-president, Tata IBM, "Small and medium enterprises are looking to sharpen their business edge by using information technology and many are not looking at just implementing productivity tools like word processing and spreadsheets anymore but want tools to help them become more effective.''

Tata IBM is a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Industries Limited and IBM Corporation.
