Syntel Telecom launches mobile radio service in Delhi

Omnitalk will offer city-wide, two-way wireless communication using handheld, mobile or base station radios.

''Trunking facilitates automatic sharing of radio channels among a number of different user groups without interfering with each other's conversation,'' Company President for Corporate Planning Ajit Mantagani said.

Omnitalk was launched in Bombay two days ago and Syntel Telecom has bagged licences for Bangalore, Madras, Pune, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Lucknow and Kanpur as well. The service will operate on the 'multient' technology from E F Johnson Company of the United States.

Mantagani said Syntel Telecom has invested Rs 150 million in the country-wide project in the national capital. The company will target about 3,000 potential customers in public services like couriers, transport operators, freight movers, construction projects, emergency services, airlines and distribution agencies which have large number of employees on the move at multiple locations in the city.

The service charges per set will be Rs 1,000 per year, Mantagani said. ''Omnitalk will help users to tighten operations and improve efficiency by offering two-way group communication for applications not offered by other mobile communication services like paging and cellular phones,'' he claimed.
