Indo-Japanese software pact inked

The agreement was signed by Taku Kajiwara, governor of the Gifu state, and Sasmeeta Srivastava, chairperson, IJSRC. As part of the agreement, IJSRC will set up its office in Gifu in the first week of November.

The two parties will co-operate in the areas of virtual distance education systems, self-improvement software, animated stories for inculcating values in children and setting up of an incubator project for raising Indian animation and software technology to Japanese standards.

The Softopia Foundation will accommodate software trainees from India in Japan while Japanese officials will teach at facilities to be established in Delhi and later Bangalore.

Language constraints has been the problem faced by companies wanting to do business with India. It has therefore been decided to establish a Japanese language training facility for Indian software engineers.

Apart from language constraints, cultural factors have also impacted the growth of business between India and Japan since Japanese companies are slow in entering a market, preferring to make a collective decision as compared to the individualistic style of Western companies.

However, software exports from India to Japan are on the increase, with the figure reaching Rs 1.09 billion during 1996-97 as against Rs 534.3 million during the previous year. The target for 2005 is Rs 10 billion.
