SDRC plans full subsidiary by yearend

Simultaneously, the company proposes to double its manpower in India each year for the next two years to staff its expanded business operations.

"We have operated from our liaison office in Delhi for the past few years. However, to support our growth we have decided to establish a wholly-owned subsidiary. By this December SDRC (India) Limited will be incorporated," Mike Kotha, director, Southern Asia-Pacific, SDRC, told reporters. "This year we plan to increase from 11 to 25 professionals. Next year we propose to increase the figure to 50 professionals."

Professionals will be inducted for the expanded business services in software and consulting. SDRC has created two competency centres: Process re-engineering and product design data management, that will provide customers better after-sales support.

Kotha is here to attend the annual SDRC users conference. He launched the company's latest mechanical design software I-DEAS release 5. I-DEAS has over 90 tightly integrated modules covering solutions in design, drafting, simulation, manufacturing and testing.

With the new package, SDRC is in a position to address almost all mechanical CAD/CAM requirements. SDRC is a supplier of mechanical design automotive software and engineering services used by manufacturers for design, analysis, testing and manufacturing of mechanical products.

The company says over 140 organisations such as TELCO, Mahindra and Mahindra, Siemens and BHEL use its products.

Narendra Reddy, country manager, India, said: "Revenue grew 60 per cent for calendar 1996 to $4.3 million in India." Automotive and automotive components industry contributed 45 per cent of the firms turnover. Some major automobile firms that use the product are TELCO, Bajaj, Ashok Leyland, Hindustan Motors and Eicher.

He said the company hoped to focus on the plastic industry in future. SDRC's software focuses on the enterprise as a whole. It incorporates activities such as bill of materials, engineering change, supplier change into one seamless unit.

Based in Ohio, SDRC has sales of $200 million in the Asia- Pacific region. In this region Japan is the largest market, followed by South Korea, with India in the third place. Worldwide SDRC has sold 250,000 copies.
