Granted what ICC did is also not quite right, but given the fact that
BCCI offered to cover financial losses incurred by the affected players
and also to shield them against any backlash from their sponsors,
players stand shows nothing but their arrogance, complete disregard for
their fans and the game of cricket. I suppose, cricket is no longer a
game of gentlemen. All this when these players have contracts worth
millions of dollars. Perhaps they are forgetting that they earn millions
because of their brand among the fans. Once their image or brand is
tarnished, they will after all not be worth that much to sponsors. One
wonders who is advising these players. I feel sorry for players other
than the four (who have sponsorship contracts to protect). They are
stuck between rock and a hard place. Seniors and the board. Shame on
seniors to creating such a situation for juniors, perhaps playing with
their careers for the sake of few thousand rupees or dollars. But then,
they are no more than mere mortals, just like most of us, who worry
about self-interests and are taken over by greed with disregard to
others.

the board which said "decide between playing for the country or money"

unpatriotic by not signing the contracts. It is ICC's greed to make
money for themselfes through our players who command huge viewership and
bring huge sponsors by their talent. In a democratic country they should
be free to do whatever they want to do if they are not harming the
cricket. Our cricketers should stand firm and should not bend to the ICC
who i think have a biased thinking for coloured players. Where does
patriotism comes in between. Who is the board to not to select the
player. They should go to the court as they are being deprived of their
legimate right to represent India. It is board's function to choose the
best team to represent the country. By sending a second rung team it is
betraying its country and it's pride. It is only the greed of ICC and
old men their of no use who have created the problem. I really

Your Views:Some time back I had written in an article
that big money is playing a big role in the gentemen's game and now
everyone , yes everyone i.e. the ICC, respective Boards and the players
are trying to grab as much money as they can and they continue to do so
even after retirement. Lokk at Ravi, Sunil, Sidhu and the whole lot of
world cricketers. Now the big question is that whether ICC can be
justified in jeopardising player's interest in order to earn some extra
money for themselves which they are trying t0o do being the controlling
authority of the game. They could have been justified had they done this
without the intension of earning some extra money for themselves. The
players are already under contract to do ads for their sponsors and a
third party cannot enter into an agreement with some other sponsor and
ask the players to revoke their own contracts. Still they trying to
adopt arm twisting activities and force the players to sign contracts
revoking their earlier legal contracts. There can be found out a way of
saving every one from breaking their legal obligations if mind is
applied to the question and if they don't own such mind they can
definitely borrow. Pity for the ICC.

of houses, hospitals, schools, parks etc. etc.

Your Views:It is a clear case of blackmailing by the
ICC.The apex body must keep in mind that the average age of a cricketer
is 4-5 years and to play for one's country he has to go through a very
tortuous path.If a cricketer does not earn through the endorsement
during these years then he can never be able to lead a proper life. If
the ICC sticks to its demands then the match fixing controversy may
arise from its grave. So it would be prudent on the part of the ICC & the
BCCI to come to an amicable settlement at the earliest for the benefit
of the game.

Your Views:ICC is totally unrealistic and creating
unwanted controversy. The players are highly committed to play for their
country and are patriotic. There is no doubt about that.If the players
had known about ICC's conditions before signing their contract with
their sponsors, they would have not signed the contract, giving
preference to play for their country. Now that they have signed the
contract earlier, they have to honour the commitment, as a professional
ethics. In addition, they can be sued for violating their contract.Even
now, ICC can modify their stand that in future their new conditions will
be applicable after a cut-off date.I think someone or an authority
should sue ICC for bringiging in a regulation arbitorily causing
embaresment, discomfort etc. to the players , who are sincere and
dedicated. Alternatively another agency parellel to ICC should be
formed, throwing this ICC out and/or derecognising them. Let us recall
an earlier incident, when this ICC created a problem for Indian players,
when an ICC umpire's action caused a major embaresment. We need a change
of president for BCCI who could be practical and shows concern for the
sincere Indian players.

It is sad part of the Game of Cricket, that both the players and
Governing Council(ICC & Respective Boards) are trying to make the game
more commercial as per the Consumer world.Even all the basic rules have
been mended to adjust for the Business Corporate who sponsor the vent
who doen't have any connection on the game.Except few corporate
houses(MRF...) who spend for the improvising and identifying the skills
of future players,no one is bothered about cricket.
So when we get more money then we are obliged to accept the conditions
put forward at you.The players are like Cinema Heros who behave with
their sponsored Identity.Previously the individual Board used to get its
sold to some lucrative amount to the Corporates. Now it is for the whole
world Cricket governing body(ICC) to sell the event to particular group
which is ready with Sponsering.
A day may come even the people who will be watching the vents also be
"Banned" from using the products of Competitor of the Sponser.
Cricket should be in the control, than in the other way which is
currently going on.

blame for not signing the contract as proposed by ICC. It is the ICC who
should have taken care of players interest first and then it's own
because without the players, be it a super star or an average cricker,
it is cricketers who are batling on the ground, because of their heroics
the game is atracting public which is resulting in huge bussines and it
is not because of ICC or BCCI.
In the current cinario if Tendulkar/Ganguly/Dravid are not playing in
the ICC knok out in Colombo then it the cricket who is going to be
looser. At list 50% of spectators will not turnout to see the game which
will result is financial losses.
The agreement signed by the ICC with the new sponsors of ICC knockout
tournament are recent one and many players are having their individual
contracts prior to this.If this players who have their private contract
sign the ICC CONTRACT then their will be dispute between the players
who are laready into the ontract with their indidual sponsors. Hence it
is mistake commited by Icc and not the players and therefor icc is

any take place. This is a very blind decission made by the ICC.I don't
think the players lack patriatism. But they are accountable to their
respectvie sponsors becouze they have been paid quite a big amount.ICC
should have made a set of rules for sponserships,
saying that the players should be in a position to put a temporary break
and later use the logos, when they sign the contracts with t. ICC has
made a big blunder in taking this decission.
If the players accept and sign the forms and wear the logos of the
ICC sponsors
at the later stages if any legal problems come, who will take care of
that,will ICC comeforth? I don't think so.
loosing some amount for representing the country, i think most of the
players may afford it, but what about the legal problems? The sponsors
may want to take a legal action against the players. Now ICC has to
give some money to the players whoever is losing becouze of this and has
to have dicssusions with the sponsors(pesonal) so that they will let the

Your Views:India made Tendularkar, Dravid, Ganguly,
and Sehwag. They did not make India. We should not allow them to hold
the country to ransom. There will emerge many players better than them
when given the chance. We should forget about them and drop them. If
they are not representing India not a single sponsor will touch them.
Let them play in the English County and fulfill thier greed. The board
should not agree now even if they agree now that all other countries
have agreed.

Your Views:I think indians should play in the ICC
champions trophy there is no place for the players to really stay out of
the game because of their personal problems.I think any individual
representing for the country should be proud and he should not really
think about all the problems he has against his sponsors.
Indians always say that they are really proud to play for the country so
why now they are running away come on play first and think of all other
problems when the game is complete.when these players are in the game to
earn lot of money then the public is not going to accept that.Dont hurt
the people. play for the country with spirit if not stop acting in
stupid advertisements which are not useful for any of them except some
fools.
play the game for the country not for individual pride and earnings.

The ICC attitude is entirely deplorable, i think it is mainly targetting
INDIAN players nothing else. In these competatitive world players tend
to earn money by other means also , in case of INDIAN players it may be
huge.
All the member countries should have backed and make group among
themselves to protest this attitude of ICC, instead we came to know that
australian have agreed for the ICC terms.. they always backstab.
We should not question our players integretity,Nationalhood they always
upheld the tricolor in true spirit. they always deserve the best. Now
BCCI try to cover up its own misdeed and agree to participate in the
championship.
we should all back up and support our players in their cause.
good luck indian players

Your Views:1) COUNTRY AND THE GAME ONLY ARE THE
FOREMOSTs. ANY PLAYER OF ANY COUNTRY NOT SIGNING THE CONTRACT FOR HIS
PERSONAL INTERESTS MUST HAVE TO BE IMMEDIATELY TERMINATED FROM HIS
CRICKETING CAREER, AT ALL.
2) BCCI OR ICC ARE THE GOVERNING BODIES. IF THEY FILL UP THEIR COFFERS
BY DOING SUCH ACTS, THEN, IT IS IN THE COMMON INTERESTS OF THE GAME.
AND IT SHOULD BE TOO. THEREFORE, A PLAYER SHOULD OBEY, IRRESPECTIVE OF
HIS PERSONAL INTERESTS, WITHOUT QUESTIONING,THE GOVERNING BODIES
DECISIONS AND COOPERATE IN FULL.
3) ANY PLAYER OF ANY COUNTRY IS RECOGNISED AND IS MADE POPULAR, PURELY,
BECAUSE OF THE GAME ONLY. NO INDIVIDUALISM OR PERSONAL INFLUENCE OF ANY
PLAYER SHOULD BE PERMITTED TO OVER POWER THE GOVERNING BODIES, WHICH
DISTURBS THE GAME AND SPOILS THE NAME OF THE COUNTRY AS A WHOLE. IN
FACT, INDIVIDUAL ADVERTISEMENT CONTACTRACTS OF ALL THE PLAYERS MUST BE
STRICTLY BANNED. ANY SPONSORSHIP OF ANY PLAYER BY ANY COMPANY OR
BUSINESS CORPORATE MUST BE THROUGH THE GOVERNING BODIES PERMISSION WITH
PROVISION FOR RIGHTS TO CHANGES TO BE MADE, FROM TIME TO TIME, THROUGH
THE NEEDS AND REQUIREMENTS OF A GIVEN SITUATION TO THE GOVERNING
BODIES.

Your Views:I think that the cricketers are perfectly
right in refusing to sign the contract.
The icc or anybody have no right in cashing in on players popularity
without taking them in confidence.
Are the cricketers slave of the management that they have to take
permission from them to sign individual contracts with their sponsors ?
The management have not done any obligation on the players by giving
them a chance to play at International levels. They are doing so becaouse
they deserve to be there and hence it is high time that the boards
starts giving the players their due.
It is the players who bring crowd / money to the sports an not the
presidents of the Icc or BCCI.

Your Views:It seems ICC and indian players both are
hungry for money and nobody wants to backoff as they need to loose
money. At the same time player has to learn that all the fame and money
is there because they are playing for the country and millions of
coutryman watching them. If nobody watch them than no company wants to
sponser them. In this fighting they will be out out team and untimately
out of job and no more fame and money.
Hey guys please put country before your personal money matters. Try to
renegotiate with ICC and your own sponsers and don't let one billion
indians let down.

Your Views:We are able to see the greedy faces of
cricket heroes, who do not care about sports of their country but only
for their personal financial interests. In the country where crores of
people are dying due to hunder, business houses are paying crores of
rupees for endorsements. These corporates, who are showing no moral
responsibility to offer help to the poor of this nation, are the
culprits in creating ugly financial benchmarks for endorsements by
cricketers. This kind of dealings not only widen the gap between haves
and havenots but also expose the super rich cricketers to extortion by
criminals.
Probably it is time our cricketers think about cricket, which has given
them the fortune they are now trying to protect, and not only their
finances. A cricketer, however indispensable for the nation, cannot hold
it for ransom. It is an insult to the nation and also to the countrymen
who feel foolish to give the star status to these cricket heroes.
No one is indispensable. Let the counrty develop another cricket team,
until that also starts playing only for money and not for country.

Your Views:Neither the Players nor the
ICC is at fault as per me the
Company's who are exploiting the passion of cricket loving
public all over the world should be penalised.
They are unnecessarliy inflating the cost of their products by paying
astronomical Sums to these players who sometimes not even know what
product they are endorsing.
After all Advertisement is all about informing the public about various
choices they have to make & not to get
driven by their emotions.Such type of Advertisement is against the very
ethics of Advertsiement & Laws should allow only a portion of such
spending as actual expenses to
control such mis spendings.

Your Views:I, for one, am with the Players. They are
the ones that make the game happen. And they were not consulted before a
contract like this was concieved. ICC, a governing body, is supposed to
take care of the players rather than creating problems for them. Mr
Speed talks about patrioitism where as its the ICC which got greedy in
the first place. I think they bluffed and the players called it.

Your Views:The players should realise that they are
not above the sport. They are jeopardising the faith and hopes of
millions of people for their own benefit. The BCCI should act tough
against the players. The BCCI says that it will compensate the players
for the losses. What for?? Did the players share the brand money earned
by them from the big corporates.
The Players should decide themselves as to the priority and BCCI would
then be able to assess the motives behind these callous players.

Your Views:There is nothing unpatriotic about not
signing the ICC contract. The players get commercial assignments because
they have done well in the game as per their abilities and the talent
available in the country. If they have done well in a game ,then they
have done well for the country.Good performer gets better commercial
assignments. That is why Sachin gets better deal.Does that make Sachin
unpatriotic? In fact more commercial assignments means more
patriotic, because his performance is better that the others.

Your Views:I think Malcom speed's arguement of
patriotism over money is an insane one.
Extending his argument , the only true patriots for us to admire will
be veerappan and bin Laden.
I dont hink he even understands basic market driven economics (Wealth
creation and entrepreneurship)which has stood the test of time.Any way
not worth replying more to his line of arguement.
But debating whether the stance taken by Indian players is right or
wrong at this late juncture - (dont know who is at fault)- I think it is
basically wrong. The interest of three or four big names cannot stand in
the way of determining a structure for the many players of the world. As
a poser it is in a way good so that the uncalled for demi-god status
created purely by media will be replaced by more common sense. A small
effort among the cricket crazy -Majority - Non literate - Unemployed
Poor Indians - who need to somehow engage 24 Hours in a day !!!
