Never in the hunt

Tamil Nadu opener Sadagopan Ramesh did not, however, do any harm to his claim for a place in the first Test with a patient unbeaten knock of 37.

Ramesh, with scores of 87, 36, 21 and 37 not out from four innings so far on the tour, has looked the most consistent of the Indian batsmen.
