Bhartiya Janata Party General Secretary Arun Jaitley told media persons on Friday that the government of India was determined not to allow holding of IPL tournament till the last week of May.
The senior BJP leader said that there was a bigger game involved in keeping the issue open with Union Home Minister P Chidambaram continuing to hold meetings with the officials of the IPL and asking them to file fresh dates for holding the tournament.
"Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi want to put pressure on NCP chief Sharad Pawar (a former BCCI chief) and keep him away from throwing his hat in the ring for the prime ministership," said another senior leader of the party.
Rajiv Shukla, who is recovering from heart surgery, had a long meeting with Chidambaram and later told the mediapersons that things have been sorted out and IPL may be held soon.
"In all, 59 matches are to be held. We have already fixed matches in Bangalore, Dharamshala, Mohali, Chattisgarh, is on stand by and Kolkata," he said.
