Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Sushma Swaraj said actress Manisha Koirala's demand for withdrawal of a censor certificate to the controversial film Ek Chhotisi Love Story could be examined as there are such provisions in the law.
After a meeting with Koirala, who had opposed objectionable scenes performed by a body double in the film, Swaraj promised to examine the issue.
"There are provisions of this kind in the Cinematography Act. If the Censor Board has provided (the clearance certificate), we have to see on what grounds it (the censor certificate) can be withdrawn. This is what I have asked to be examined," Swaraj said.
The actress, who plays the lead role in the film, said she had asked Swaraj if the censor certificate given to the film could be withdrawn under the Cinematography Act.
According to Koirala, the minister told her the matter was being examined by the ministry and "she will let us know at the earliest."
The meeting between the actress, who was accompanied by her lawyer Satish Maneshinde, and the minister lasted 10 minutes, official sources said.
