US-based Ariba sets up shop in IndiaUS-based information technology company Ariba Inc on Tuesday said that it will start offering electronic commerce services to major industrial sectors in India. "Ariba's operations in India will focus on enabling the creation of open business-to-business marketplaces ... providing seamless access to value-added services such as electronic payments, logistics, content services," Larry Mueller, president and chief operating officer, said. Mueller said Ariba's operations would help local businesses benefit from lower costs and competitive advantages of business-to-business e-commerce. He said Ariba was working towards selling e-commerce services to the textiles, chemicals, oil and gas, petrochemicals and other sectors in India. "We are aiming for rapid expansion in the Indian market and have already formed strong working relationships with a number of influential alliance partners." Mueller said business-to-business e-commerce networking would prove useful in India because of geographical distances and other limitations.
