Emirates not invited to acquire A-I pie

The government on Tuesday said that there was no proposal to invite Dubai based Emirates group to acquire equity stake in Air India.

Civil Aviation Minister Sharad Yadav informed the Rajya Sabha that the exercise of equity in Air India had been completed and study of data documents of the bidder had begun.

Yadav said there was a proposal to change the pricing mechanism for international flights, though no final decision had been taken yet.

The minister also made it clear that the government is not considering any proposal to introduce voluntary retirement scheme in either the Air India or Indian Airlines.

Yadav also said that there was no proposal at present with the government to develop an alternative international airport at Noida in Uttar Pradesh.

The minister said the government had recently approved proposals for letting private players into ground handling services at international airports.

He said, according to the terms of the tender, companies having upto 78 per cent foreign equity were eligible.
