Teenaged girl beaten up on suspicion of spreading AIDSClose on the heels of the killing of a youth suspected to be spreading AIDS by injecting contaminated blood in Chennerkuppam near Madras, a teenaged girl was attacked in a nearby village following rumours that she was doing the same. The 16-year-old girl, who was moving around Thiruverkadu, sustained injuries in the hand and head. The police intervened and saved her. She has been admitted to the Kilpauk medical college hospital. The girl had been abandoned by a woman, who brought her from Tuticorin, promising a job. Preliminary enquiries revealed that she was not carrying any syringe or contaminated blood, the police said. Three people arrested in this connection were produced before a magistrate court in Poonamallee. They have been remanded to 15 days judicial custody. UNI
