Trim 'em bellies down, VP tells Delhi cops

Vice-President Krishna Kant took a dig at the Delhi police force, advising its many potbellied personnel to exercise and be fit.

''You will always have to be alert regarding physical fitness. A jawan with a protruding belly, who is called potbellied, not only becomes the butt of joke among people but also evokes no confidence,'' he told officers and jawans of the Delhi police on its 50th raising day.

Recalling the similar experience he had when he was the Andhra Pradesh governor, Krishna Kant said a campaign was started under which police officers and jawans were instructed to contain their waistline. A programme of exercises and yoga was launched for them. It was initially successful; but the moment the pace slowed down 'pot bellies returned'.

Keeping in view the difficult task the police force was doing, it was important its personnel remained trim and fit, Krishna Kant said.
