The constituency of strongman Anadi Charan Das who first won this seat in 1971 for the Congress. In 1980 and 1984 he was the MP again, for the Congress, but in 1989 and 1991 he fought on the JD ticket and won. He contested the seat as the Congress candidate once again in 1996, but lost to the JD's Anchal Das by 4,000 votes.
