Ram Lal Rahi won the 1977 election on the BLD ticket, but he contested the 1980 election on a Congress ticket and retained the seat. In 1984 he was once again out of the Congress and with the Lok Dal, and was defeated by the Congress. In 1989 he was back with the Congress, and won the seat then and in 1991. In 1996, he came fourth, with the constituency voting Paragi Lal of the BJP. Lal defeated the SP's Shyam Lal Rawat by 9,000 votes. The BSP, which came third, won 107,055 votes.
