The parliamentary constituency containing Ayodhya, has voted Vinay Katiyar of the BJP in 1991 and 1996. Mitrasen Yadav, the CPI MP in 1989, contested in 1996 on the SP ticket, and came second, losing by 27,000 votes. This is the constituency that rejected former chief minister Sucheta Kriplani's attempt to enter Parliament on the Congress-O ticket in 1971.
