Times they are a-changing...

In keeping with the times, Lord Krishna feasted on chowmein, sandwiches and gol gappe during the new year celebrations in Mathura.

These popular fast food items were among the 101 delicacies offered to Krishna as bhog at the Kripalu Kunj temple in this pilgrim town.

Temple manager Kamta Prasad Verma said six kinds of fruit juice including mosambi and pineapple were served as appetisers. Then came four types of soups. The main course featured seven kinds of parathas along with six preparations of vegetables.

Besides traditional sweetmeats, fast food favourites like idli, dosa, falooda, kulfi, pao bhaji, stuffed pancakes, roomali rotis, sarson ka saag, makki ki roti and chaat were offered. Spicy gol gappas, dahi papri, dahi gijiyas and aloo tikki were also served to the lord along with excellent filter coffee. The last on the list was hajmola digestive tablets!

The bhog was later distributed among devotees.
