Judge tries to wash away predecessor's 'untouchability' with Ganga water

Tuesday's Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha saw several members on their feet seeking government action in a case wherein the chamber occupied by a scheduled caste judge was 'purified' with Ganga water by his successor.

Raising the issue, Shailendra Kumar of the Samajwadi Party said the chamber of B Prasad, additional district judge of Allahabad, was washed with Ganga water by Ashok Kumar Srivastava soon after the former's transfer.

When Prasad complained, he was transferred to Mainpuri, Kumar told the House.

He demanded the transfer be cancelled as the scheduled caste judge was suffering from a heart ailment and adequate medical facilities were lacking at the place where he is now posted.

Members cutting across party lines demanded action by the Supreme Court in the case.

Union Labour Minister Satya Narain Jetia said details about the incident would be collected.

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, backed up Congress leader Rajesh Pilot, said if the case was true it was highly condemnable.

Prabhu Nath Singh of the Samata party, Ram Das Athawale of the Republican Party of India, Laloo Prasad Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal and Virendra Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party also joined the condemnation.
