Cong, UF to move against Ayodhya temple

The Congress and the United Front are considering moving an adjournment motion following reports that a section of the Sangh Parivar plans to go ahead with the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site at Ayodhya, irrespective of the court verdict.

"We will use all democratic methods to see that such a thing does not happen, Congress spokesperson Ajit Jogi said in reply to a question whether the Congress would sponsor an adjournment motion in the House. The party has also demanded that the government constitute a joint parliamentary committee study attempts by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad to build the temple using prefabricated materials now being manufactured in Rajasthan. The materials are being transported to Ayodhya.

Jogi was, however, categorical that his party would not trust Home Minister L K Advani's assurance that the government would abide by the court verdict, saying the BJP leadership had given umpteen assurances in 1992 also before they went ahead with the destruction of the Babri Masjid.
