Activities at Meenakashi TempleHOUSTON -- The Sri Meenakshi Temple, among the largest of Indian temples in North America will hold Sept 9-12 Kumbhabhishakam-Koshta Vigraha Sthapanam, Nandi Mandapam and Bali Pedem Installation. The temple also endeavors throughout the year to hold religious discourses, and has plans to expand its activities to instill religious and cultural values in the second generation Indian Americans here and the surrounding towns. Banquet Gala for CharityHOUSTON An evening of fun, excitement with music, dancing, auction and casino action is being offered on September 11 at the annual banquet and gala night organized by the Indo-American Charity Foundation. The event is scheduled to start at 7.30 pm at the Westin Oaks Hotel in Gallerina. Contributions help community services like aimed at abused women, children with HIV infection, senior daycare center or homeless persons. Janmashtami Celebrations in HoustonHOUSTON An evening of Janmashtami celebrations is being organised here on September 11, from 6.30 pm to midnight, at the George R Brown Convention Center. Religious and social exhibits and presentations on the message of all 18 chapters of the Bhagvad Geeta are being planned. There will also be ras garba for the entire family, music and dance performances, essay and art contests for the youth, fancy dress competition for children, Indian snacks and booths by local organizations.
