Literary Club To Discuss Ghosh's NovelBERKELEY The San Francisco chapter of NetIP and friend are meeting on September 12 at 11 am at the Barnes and Noble Booksellers for the literary club meeting. Niru Savdharia will lead the discussion of Amitav Ghosh's novel,The Shadow Lines. In reviewing it for The New York Times, Edward Hopper noted: '[Amitav Ghosh] has written another stunning book -- amusing, sad, wise and truly international in scope.... There is a danger for authors as technically gifted as Amitav Ghosh to sacrifice coherence and characterization to literary pyrotechnics, but this never happens here. What is finally most impressive is the eloquence of the author's perceptions about his characters. 'With this book, Mr. Ghosh establishes himself as an accomplished artist, a master of style and insight. The Shadow Lines is a brilliant novel.' Another regular feature is lunch at Vik's Chaat House (also in Berkeley) at 1.30 pm. The B&N is located at 2352 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley, CA 94704; (510)644-0861.
