Principal held for molestation in Orissa

A college principal was arrested by the police on charges of molesting a lecturer on Monday.

Sudarshan Sarangee, principal of the Veda Karmakanda Mahavidalaya in Puri, was subsequently remanded to jail.

According to the superintendent of police, Puri, Debashish Panigrahi, the lecturer, a married woman, filed a complaint on Sunday with the Sea Beach police that Sarangee molested her recently when she went to his office to sign the attendance register.

The officer in-charge of the Sea Beach police station said that they have registered a criminal case under Section 294, 506, 355 of the Indian Penal Code.

Sarangee was denied bail by the sub-divisional judicial magistrate.

The incident has sent shockwaves in the temple city. Several women organisations have decided to protest before the college as well as district administration in support of the lecturer.

Sources said this was the second case of a molestation in Puri in recent months. Earlier, a school teacher was allegedly molested by another teacher.
