17 Orissa MLAs complain against IAS officerBhibuti Mishra in Bhubaneshwar He is the most corrupt officer. Suspend him," states a memorandum from 17 legislators to Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, against senior Indian Administrative Service officer Prashant Nayak. An officer of the 1984 batch, he was special secretary to former chief minister Giridhar Gamango. The MLAs, mostly from western Orissa and tribal dominated pockets, have demanded his suspension. They have also sought a vigilance raid on his house, as he has ''amassed wealth of up to Rs 2 million during his 16-year service, and is involved in murder and rape''. The Orissa High Court, in a judgment on the Balasore sex scandal, had ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into his involvement. Said the memorandum: "The Orissa High Court ordered a special audit into most allegations of misappropriation during his tenure as collector of Angul. Even the IAS Association, at a special meeting in November 1999, condemned his mischievous and nefarious activities and passed a resolution that action should be taken against him, besides suspension." The MLAs asked the CM how he, as a champion of integrity and honesty in the administration, tolerated such an officer and pleaded that by taking immediate action against him, he should maintain the clean image of his government. Said a senior IAS officer: "Nayak is really mischievous and corrupt. It will be only poetic justice if the CM acts on the MLAs' complaint."
