Centre orders probe into tiger deaths

The Centre has constituted a six-member expert team to investigate the death of tigers in Nandankanan zoo of Bhubaneshwar.

The team, headed by P R Sinha, member secretary, Central Zoo Authority, will assist the Orissa government in finding reasons for the death of the tigers and health care of tigers in the zoo. The team will suggest preventive measures against such incidents, an official release today said in New Delhi.

Other members of the team are Pushpa Kumar, zoo expert, Hyderabad S K Patnaik, chief conservator of forests (wildlife), Orissa, Dr Ram Kumar, member secretary, Veterinary Council of India Dr Chakaravorty, Bannerghatta National Park, Karnataka and Dr Manoharan, veterinary officer, Vandalur Zoo, Madras.

The team was constituted following Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's talk with Environment and Forest Minister T R Baalu.
