The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day on Thursday as a mark of respect to sitting member and founder-president of Tamil Maanila Congress G K Moopanar, who passed away on Thursday morning in Madras.
As soon as the House met, Chairman Krishan Kant announced the news of Moopanar's death and paid rich tributes to the departed leader before adjourning the House.
Describing Moopanar as a crusader of public cause and social reforms, Kant said he endeared himself to the people and the House with his suave manners.
Moopanar was a member of the upper house for four times.
