'China's call for restraint should be directed at Pakistan'

India on Wednesday said China's call for restraint by it should be directed at Pakistan, which has to come with answers to the situation created by Islamabad.

An External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said, "It is for Pakistan to take action against the terrorist outfits" operating from that country against India.

Referring to the remark made by the deputy director general of the Asia department of the Chinese foreign ministry during a press briefing in Beijing and his reference to Kashmir as a 'core issue', she said "There is no change in our position in this regard. We reject any suggestion that J&K constitutes any such category (core issue)."

India has consistently rejected such a thesis and termed J&K as 'core of our nationhood', she said.

At this stage, the critical issue between India and Pakistan is that the latter should immediately stop all cross-border terrorist activities against India and 'positively act on India's legitimate and wholly justified call for action by Islamabad against the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, Pakistan-based terrorist organisations, who are responsible for the terrorist attack on our Parliament on December 13'.

She said since the September 11 terror strikes in the US, the international community has unambiguously and unanimously upheld India's long held position that there is no justification for terrorism wherever, whenever and for whatever reason.

As per the norms of international law, it is the duty of all governments to crack down on terrorist organisations, she said.
