Court to hear arguments in Babri case on March 1

The special Central Bureau of Investigation court trying the Ayodhya demolition cases has scheduled the next hearing for March 1.

On March 1, the court will hear the arguments of the defence counsel on the CBI's plea for proceeding against all 47 accused in the case, including Union ministers L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharati.

CBI counsel P K Chaubey on Friday pleaded that since none of the 47 accused had been discharged by the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court, which had set aside the second notification for the trial of eight accused, charges could be framed against them on the basis of the chargesheet filed after the first notification.

He argued that since the CBI had filed one consolidated chargesheet against all the 47 accused, they all should be proceeded against.

Objecting to the CBI's plea, the counsel for the three Union ministers, Mahipal Singh, said his clients could not be proceeded on the basis of a chargesheet held invalid by the high court.

After hearing the counsels for both sides, the court posted the matter for further hearing on March 1.
