Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh on Thursday called his party colleague Phoolan Devi's assassination a "political conspiracy."
He said the Uttar Pradesh police had withdrawn her security to facilitate her killing and accused UP Chief Minister Rajnath Singh of being a party to the conspiracy.
Addressing reporters outside Parliament just hours after Pholan Devi was gunned down outside her Ashoka Road residence by masked gunmen, Amar Singh said the murder of a member of Parliament was a matter of great shame for Union Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani.
He said the Bharatiya Janata Party has drawn up a sinister plan to eliminate all important Samajwadi Party leaders ahead of assembly elections in UP.
Singh said his party colleague and MP, Mohammad Azam Khan, seemed to be the next target of the UP government because his security has also been withdrawn.
Lashing out at Advani, Amar Singh said: "Advani ko to chullu bhar paani mein doob kar mar jaana chahiye."
Singh said while the UP state government, especially Chief Minister Rajnath Singh, is splurging money on tea parties, security details of Samajwadi Party leaders were being curtailed under the excuse of cost cutting.
Meanwhile, Senior Congress leader Priyaranjan Das Munshi and Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati have demanded a high-level inquiry into Phoolan Devi's murder.
