National Democratic Alliance convenor and former defence minister George Fernandes has said that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is the core issue between India and Pakistan.
"Pakistan had occupied parts of Kashmir after attacking India long back and hence PoK has to be the core issue in any bilateral talks between the two nations," he said on Monday.
India had also taken up the issue with the United Nations, he added.
Fernandes said the summit meeting between Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf was a good beginning as it had helped in restarting the dialogue process.
