Former Hurriyat chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Thursday termed as "a white lie" Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's assertion that Jammu and Kashmir was an integral part of India.
"Kashmir is a disputed territory and needs to be resolved as per the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir," Geelani told reporters in New Delhi.
"It is an unrealistic claim to say Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. On the contrary, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been fighting for the right of self-determination right from 1947," he said, taking exception to the remarks by Vajpayee at Somnath in Gujarat on Wednesday.
Geelani, who is also a Jamaat-e-Islami leader, said the ongoing struggle in the state would continue till the right of self-determination was given to the people.
