No proposal for military alliance with US: Jaswant

External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh has denied as 'wonderful fiction', the reports that India has rejected a proposal for a full-fledged military alliance with the US.

"There was no such proposal," he said referring to reports in the media that the Cabinet Committee on Security had last month rejected a proposal for a full-fledged military alliance with the US.

He said the new strategic framework between India and the US envisaged enhancing consultations on US missile defence plans, expanding cooperation on export controls, including provision of additional training programmes and equipment, and discussing means to stimulate high technology and commerce between the two countries.

As part of expanded defence cooperation, a meeting of the Defence Policy Group would be held in Delhi in December, the external affairs minister said.
