China on Thursday said it is 'deeply concerned' over the volatile situation in Pakistan following US-led military action on Afghanistan, and stressed that Islamabad's stability is key to the ongoing international campaign against terrorism.
"At the moment, we are very much concerned about the situation in Pakistan," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi said, when asked to comment on the situation in Pakistan since the US launched air attacks on Afghanistan.
He said, "We are a friendly neighbour of Pakistan and Afghanistan. We hope to see stability in Pakistan. Stability is not only important for the Pakistanis but also for the international struggle against terrorism."
"For quite some time, China enjoys good relations with Pakistan in various fields. We have been promoting economic exchanges and cooperation. There are many projects and these projects are going on," Sun said.
He added, "In the future, we will still carry on our friendly ties and cooperation with Pakistan."
Declining to comment on the stability of the Pervez Musharraf government, Sun said, "Regarding Pakistan's domestic affairs, we have always adopted a non-interference policy."
"We believe that the Pakistani government and people can properly deal with their domestic issues," he said.
