The BJP has sought China's 'active' cooperation to root out the scourge of terrorism faced by the international community, a senior party official said on Monday.
Pointing out that the September 11 strikes on the US had brought the phenomenon of terrorism centre stage, BJP National General Secretary Sunil Shastri said the party had conveyed to senior officials of China's ruling Communist Party that India had been a victim of the menace for over a decade.
"I am sure the governments of our two countries will actively cooperate to root out the evil of terrorism," Shastri quoted senior BJP leader Bhairon Singh Shekhawat as telling the Chinese side during meetings.
His comments follow China's refusal to condemn terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir so as not to hurt Pakistan.
For instance, when asked to comment on the October 1 suicide bombing on the Jammu and Kashmir assembly building which killed 38 people, the Chinese foreign ministry declined to condemn the attack.
"We express regret over this unfortunate incident," a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said without condemning the terrorist act.
