O Panneerselvam has been named as the new Tamil Nadu chief minister and would be sworn in at Raj Bhavan shortly.
He was serving as the revenue minister in the J Jayalalithaa government.
The Supreme Court had on Friday scrapped All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary J Jayalalithaa's appointment as chief minister of Tamil Nadu, citing her appointment by former governor Fathima Beevi as unconstitutional.
Panneerselvam represents the Perayakulan assembly segment falling under the Lok Sabha constituency under the same name, represented by T T Dinakaran, a nephew of Sasikala Natarajan, considered to be close to former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
