In an unexpected move, Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik went in for a major reshuffle of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Orissa Administrative Service (OAS) officers on Sunday night, official sources said on Monday.
According to a notification issued by the general administration department on Sunday night, at least 32 senior officials have been shifted. They include 14 district magistrate and collectors of the state's 32 districts and 18 additional secretaries.
The reshuffle may have been prompted by accusations that the Patnaik government was non-functional.
Restive leaders in the ruling BJD-BJP coalition had been pressurizing Patnaik to carry out a bureaucratic reshuffle to assert his authority.
Among the important additional secretaries who have been transferred are vice-chairman of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority Dilip Mohanty, additional secretary in the finance department K C Badu, director of the information and public relation department Rahas Behari Behera and Labour Commissioner Dandanirodh Mishra, it said.
The government has also shifted the district magistrate and collectors of Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Angul, Kandhamal, Raigada, Nuapada, Boudh, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada districts, the notification said.
