Following the killing of H Nagappa, the Karnataka government on Tuesday declared it would oppose the bail applications of jailed Tamil activist Kolathur Mani, whom forest brigand Veerappan had sought as emissary to
negotiate the release of the JD(U) leader during the hostage crisis.

"The government has already filed objections to his bail applications," Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister D B Chandregowda told reporters in Bangalore.

A sessions court in Mysore had on Monday rejected Mani's bail applications leading to his counsel stating that he
would approach the high court.

The government had earlier decided to consider withdrawal of cases against Mani and also not to oppose his bail pleas to enable him to meet Veerappan and help facilitate Nagappa's release.
