China, Pak pledge to further strengthen defence ties

Amid the tense India-Pakistan standoff, senior Chinese and Pakistani defence officials on Tuesday reviewed their 'all weather friendship' and pledged to enhance defence ties, an official report said.

"The relations between the two military forces have also achieved progress, with exchanges and cooperation strengthened at high levels and in all fields," vice chairman of the central military commission General Zhang Wannian said.

Zhang made these remarks while meeting General Muhammad Aziz Khan, chairman of joint chief the staff committee of Pakistan, who is on a weeklong visit to China, Xinhua news agency reported.

Zhang said China and Pakistan have witnessed an 'all weather friendship' based on mutual trust and cooperation since the two countries established diplomatic ties 50 years ago.

Aziz said the friendship between the two countries has withstood the test of time, and Pakistan will work harder to further the friendly cooperation between the two sides.

China stated that it has 'normal' military trade relations with some countries, including Pakistan for several years and the recent supply of defence equipment to Islamabad has no link with the current Indo-Pak tension.
