A Border Security Force soldier was killed and five other security personnel were injured in an encounter, when a joint search party of BSF and Special Operations Group raided Ahmednagar locality to flush out militants on Monday, an official spokesman said on Tuesday.
The militants, believed to be three in number, opened fire and lobbed grenades on the search party after the troops encircled the locality following information about the presence of ultras there, he said.
The troops fired back and the encounter was continuing, he said, adding five BSF personnel and a SOG jawan were injured.
The injured were rushed to hospital, where a BSF head constable Chatri Singh succumbed to injuries, he said.
A BSF spokesman said the security personnel suffered injuries when they were engaged in rescuing some civilians trapped in the house where the militants were hiding.
