Tamil Nadu police on Friday put off the plan to shift Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko to the Vellore central jail from the Madurai central prison, where he was lodged following his judicial remand on Friday morning, fearing mischief by MDMK cadres.
After travelling about two kilometres towards Vellore, the police party turned back and returned to the Madurai fearing trouble from protesting MDMK cadres, the police said.
Though Vaiko, who was arrested on Thursday in a case under POTA, was lodged at the central prison, it was later decided to shift him to the Vellore prison following 'instructions from higher officials', they said.
